Department of Veterans Affairs

The Veteran Employment Program (VEP), delivered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, delivers initiatives that support Australian organisations to improve employment outcomes for Australian Defence Force veterans. 

Veterans are a highly skilled talent pool that should be considered by a range of industries. They possess skills, experience and attributes that make them great employees such as strong communication skills, teamwork, leadership and the ability to achieve outcomes in high pressure situations. 

The VEP offers advice, resources, guides and templates employers can use to implement and enhance veteran employment policies, practices and initiatives in their workplaces and build veteran-inclusive work environments.  

A core VEP initiative is the Veteran Employment Commitment. Employers are encouraged to apply to be recognised at one of three levels, Veteran Employment Supporter, Veteran Friendly Employer or Veteran Employer of Choice. Employers receive a badge stating their level of recognition plus a profile on the VEP website where veterans and veteran partners can find them.
