ACCC

The ACCC is Australia’s national competition and consumer regulator, responsible for administering and enforcing the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Our role is to promote fair competition, fair trading and consumer protection so markets work effectively for businesses, consumers and the broader community. For small businesses, the ACCC provides guidance to help owners understand their rights and responsibilities, avoid common compliance risks and operate confidently. We also address issues such as anti-competitive conduct, unfair contract terms and misleading or deceptive behaviour that may harm businesses or consumers.

Beyond enforcement, the ACCC places strong emphasis on education and practical support for small businesses. We provide clear, accessible guidance on key areas of competition and consumer law, including consumer guarantees, advertising and pricing practices, unfair contract terms and how businesses can protect themselves from scams. The ACCC also works with industry associations, government agencies and business support organisations to improve awareness of these laws. Through practical tools, online resources and outreach activities, we aim to help small businesses understand their obligations, manage compliance risks and operate with confidence in fair and competitive markets across Australia.
